Horror film – in development
To begin with, Saya No Uta is a visual novel – a type of video game akin to an interactive novel that is very popular in Japan – created at the start of his career by the renowned writer Gen Urobuchi (Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass, Puella Magi Madoka Magic, Godzilla 2017). With its nightmarish world and uncompromising love story, it quickly became a cult game, the fame of which has spread well beyond the borders of Japan.
STW has acquired the adaptation rights to produce a film that can appeal to genre fans as well as to a much larger general audience, drawn in by Adam and Saya’s dark, tragic romance. The two runaway teens are a modern, maniacal version of Romeo and Juliet or Bonnie and Clyde… “Through its unique manga, cartoon and video game culture, Japan has developed some of today’s most distinctive and exciting IPs” said STW’s CEO Savin Yeatman-Eiffel. “We’re very happy to collaborate with such a talented and creative company as NitroPlus, and to help introduce their work to fresh new international audiences”.
